Tuesday 28th November
It was rumoured that the reinforcements were Squalled last night & today nearly all our men have been ordered out to try & intercept the Boers & try & take their redoubts & to be of some assistance to the Troops on this side. Our men left about 2 o'clock in the afternoon with 36 hour's food each man, besides several wagon loads of food stuffs, as it was the intention of staying a couple of days. However between 11 & 12 o'clock in the morning our men had to return having suffered very heavy losses including the Imperial Officer in Command, Lieut. Colonel Scott Turner while trying to take the enemies last redoubt. Our losses were 24 killed & 28 wounded.
